Most horse owners are not so much worried about their horse's true problem as much as they are worried
about the symptom of that problem. They don't view the problem as the "problem". They mistakenly view the symptom
as the "problem".
As an example; you ask your horse to go through an open gate or through some water. The horse
rears up when you ask. You see the problem as "rearing" when the real problem is "trusting". The rearing is just the
symptom of the problem. You can't fix the rearing untill you deal with the lack of trust that the horse has in you and/or
in itself. The horse may need to build confidence in itself as well as in you.
This class shows you how to overcome these symptoms such as rearing, kicking, bucking, spooking,
fear of loading, or crossing water. Can't spray, can't trim, can't clip. Won't stand still to mount. Certainly
can't touch his ears. Hard to catch, won't stop, moves out to fast, or doesn't want to move out at
all.
Few horses are stubborn or mean. Most problems fall into the catagories of lack of trust,
lack of leadership, lack of comunication, pain, and laziness (energy conservation). If you can conquer these few problems,
then most symptoms just fade away.
THIS IS BASICLY A GROUND WORK COURSE FOR THE BROKE HORSE WITH "ISSUES"
AND WITH THE ADDITION OF TEACHING THE STUDENTS HOW TO FIX SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING WITH THEIR HORSES WHILE IN
THE SADDLE, IF APPLICABLE.
THIS COURSE IS PROBABLY THE MOST BENEFICIAL FOR MOST RECREATIONAL HORSE OWNERS.
MOST FOLKS "BLEEP OVER" GROUND WORK, NOT UNDERSTANDING ITS IMPORTANCE. THEY MAY NOT
EVEN KNOW WHAT GROUND WORK IS, OR THINK IT IS ONLY RUNNING YOUR HORSE IN CIRCLES.
GROUND WORK, PROPERLY DONE, WILL FIX MANY PROBLEMS WITHOUT HAVING TO ACTUALLY
"FIX THE PROBLEM". OTHER PROBLEMS IT MAKES MUCH EASIER TO FIX. IT IS THE FOUNDATION FOR HAVING YOUR HORSE
TRUST, RESPECT, OBEY, AND LOOK TO YOU AS THEIR LEADER.
GROUND WORK (WHICH CONSISTS OF FACING, SENDING,
TURNING, PIVOTING, BACKING, JUMPING, SIDEPASSING, STANDING, PASSING UNDER, SQUEEZING, CROSSING, ENTERING, LEAVING,
SENSITIZING, DESENSITIZING, WALKING, TROTTING, LOPING, LATERAL NECK FLEXION, VERTICAL NECK FLEXTION, AND BEING LED
ON A LOOSE LINE) IS THE BASIS FOR A WELL BEHAVED AND RELAXED HORSE.
IT SHOULD BE JUST AS ENJOYABLE AS RIDING IS. AFTER
A LONG DAY AT WORK YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE TIME OR ENERGY FOR A TRAIL RIDE. BUT 15 MINUTES OF GROUND WORK IS A FUN
AND RELAXING WAY TO SPEND A LITTLE QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR HORSE.
IT ALSO HELPS TO FORM THAT BOND BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR HORSE, AS YOU LEARN
TO BETTER COMUNICATE WITH HIM.
